Officials and Coaches

CCCC is all about fun and friendly participation. We want to support as many children as possible and help them to enjoy playing cricket. To do this we have an experienced and well qualified group of coaches led by our Director of Cricket, Steve Taylor. Each age group or section has a Lead Coach as well as a number of support coaches, many of whom are ECB Level 2 qualified. Our aim is to provide an all-round, balanced program to support all levels and abilities.

Jonny Kent – Chairman – Lead Coach U15s

ECB Level 2 Coach

Jonny, our club Chairman, started his cricketing career many (many!) years ago, playing at school and University in Yorkshire. Having trekked down south in search of gainful employment, he then played for and captained various teams in the City.

Since he started coaching junior cricket in 2011, Jonny has coached across a number of age groups with a focus on U13 and U15 teams. These teams have had competition success at local, regional and also national level. He has also managed Cambridgeshire Youth Cricket age group teams.

Jonny is an ECB qualified level 2 coach, a level 1 umpire and continues to turn his arm over on a Saturday afternoon in the lower regions of Cambridgeshire adult cricket.

Clare Gordon – Welfare Officer

Clare grew up being dragged around cricket grounds in Cambridgeshire and beyond, including London and Trinidad! Having not managed to escape cricket, and recently moved back to Cambridge, her son now trains and plays for the CCCC U11 team. Not having her hands full enough with managing his football team (!) she is now also welfare officer for CCCC.

Steve Taylor – Director of Cricket – Lead Coach Girls Section

ECB Level 2 Coach

Steve is an ECB level 2 qualified coach and is currently the Lead Coach for both the Cambridgeshire County CC U13 girls team and the Cambridge University Women’s 1st XI.

He has coached in Cambridge for a number of years and has led various Cambridgeshire County CC age group teams including the U17 Girls, U10 and U11 boys and the Cambs & Hunts Women’s county team.

Away from CCCC, Steve is involved with coaching cricket at 16 schools in the Cambridge area. He has also won awards within the Sky Sports and Chance to Shine coaching programmes.

Matthew Holt – Lead Coach U13s

ECB Level 2 Coach

Matt grew up playing cricket in Essex for Wickford CC, as a top order batsmen and team mouth piece! After graduating from soft to hardball cricket at U10 level, he was selected for Essex CCC junior training squads and was fortunate enough to be coached by some of Essex’s finest cricket coaches, at the Chelmsford Indoor Cricket School.

Upon completion of his bachelors degree (1st) in sport science, Matt moved to Cambridge with his wife and played two seasons for LPG in the Tucker Gardner Division 1. Playing four times a week was not conducive to a healthy marriage (!) and so he retired from playing, shortly before getting the coaching bug when his two sons started playing in 2011. Since then Matt has been coaching at U9, U10 and U11 level and will continue to look after the U11 A team in 2020.

Richard Snell – Lead Coach U11s

ECB Level 2 Coach

Richard manages the U10’s, which is the oldest group not to use a hard ball. He has loved cricket since Essex won the double in 1979 and has been an Essex member since the mid-80s. He even used to be able to play the game reasonably well, at least until he got old!

Never far from a radio or TV when there’s a game on, he can bore you senseless with encyclopaedic trivia about the game, especially where England (and of course Essex) are involved.

Saj Wimalaratne – Lead Coach U9s/U10s

I represent three cricketing nations: Sri Lanka, where I was born; New Zealand, where I grew up; and United Kingdom, where I live now. Therefore, the country I support can swing and roundabout depending on who is winning the match! I have been playing cricket since I was 4 years old and I have experience playing on the road, backyards, on the beach and also at the SCG.

Currently, I play for a work league in Cambridge and consider myself a top order batsman. I love every element of the game and would love to encourage the young generation to play cricket.

Daminda ‘DK’ Ranaweera – Senior Coach U11s/U13s

ECB Level 2 Coach

DK is an ex-first class Sri Lankan cricketer who has been playing and coaching in the UK for some time. As a top order batsman and spin bowler, he has been working with both the U11’s and U113’s for the last 18 months  and has been a great addition to the CCCC Coaching team. You will find him easy to recognise as he always has a smile on his face!

Currently playing in the 1st XI for our partner club, Cambridge CC, he was their stand out batsman last season in the much vaunted East Anglian Premier League (EAPL) and brings a wealth of both playing and coaching experience to the section.

Alec Armstrong – Senior Coach U11s/U13s

ECB Level 2 Coach
