CCCC U11B v Foxton CC U11 (Match Report)

CCCC U11B – 72 for 5 (Net score 247)

Foxton U11 – 43 for 10 (Net score 193)

This was an eagerly awaited first outing for the U11B’s after rain had wrecked their first fixture. Conditions were near perfect on a glorious bank holiday Monday.

Captain Noah Holt won the toss and elected to bowl, eager to exploit the shiny pink ball and his talented bowling attack.

CCCC were granted the perfect start as Freddie Higgins charged in and, with his first ball, clean bowled the Foxton opening batsman. This great start set the tone for the rest of the CCCC bowlers with everyone making a contribution, including a double wicket maiden from Ciaran Harrison and two wickets each for Milan Pankhania and Xander Silverwood. The fielding was also top draw with Milan effecting a sublime direct hit run out and Xander taking a difficult catch at mid on. Also of note was the steady keeping of Toni Nicholson, who wasn?t afraid to stand up to the stumps for all the bowlers.

With the fielding out the way there was no pressure on the CCCC batsmen as Foxton were in a net negative position. However, despite being in such a strong position, the CCCC openers contrived to give the opposition a ‘bit of a sniff’ by loosing 4 wickets in the first 3 overs! We?ll write this off to a combination of excitement and nerves.

After this shaky start everyone calmed down and CCCC only lost one further wicket. With excellent contributions from Xander, Noah and Freddie, CCCC cruised well beyond their victory target. Most correct shot of the day went to Lily Pretorius with a lovely drive past extra cover.

Many put their hands up for ?Man of the Match? but it was the dynamic direct hit run out and excellent bowling of Milan that saw him edge the others.

Thanks to all who turned out on for what was an excellent evening for cricket. Well done team!
